let's start a riot

so, i don't consider myself much of an athlete. i'm not that competitive. i'm against war whenever possible, and i don't like people fighting around me. however...put me in a gymnasium at a basketball game and i'm ready for someone to get a major butt-kicking! i went to the high school boys' game at my old high school tonight and it was great. we beat a school that thinks they are so much better than us, one boy got busted in the mouth, a fight almost broke out before the warm-ups even started, and one of our kids got kicked out of the game and it was so exciting! nothing brings a community together like yelling at referees and teenage boys from a nearby town! wasn't real happy about someone bumping into my car with the back of their car on my way out of the parking lot even after i honked and honked at them, but the rest was great. i love this game!

millionaire

slumdog millionaire was really good. i'm glad we went to see it. i highly recommend it! maybe it's 'cause we went to the 4:10 show, but we were surrounded by old people. it was weird, and i'm not sure why they were all there. i guess because the movie won the golden globe for best picture, at least there weren't cell phones out all over the place! i will never understand why people take little kids in to a rated r movie. either get a babysitter or wait until the movie is out on dvd. don't bring kids to a movie unless it's something they want to see! speaking of kids, there's lots of baby news going on around us. auttie and dcam found out they're having a girl! one of my friends from church is due this week. k-dogg had to go to a baby shower at work! a friend from school is due this weekend. one of my old friends had her baby early this week. and the eighth grader at my school looks like she's about to bust even though she has two or three weeks left. everyone at school is worried she's going to have it at school! in other school news...by friday my week was going much better. all the problems that were happening got worked out because i stood up for myself. other than that, we've been busy planning some trips. my mom and i are going to california on spring break to see bean and j-baby! k-dogg and my cousin are planning a trip to japan! i have absolutely no desire to go to japan. as long as he takes a lot of pictures and brings me a present, i'll be happy. i need to find something to eat and probably start on a baby blanket...go see slumdog millionaire, but leave your kids at home!

electric lullaby

even though it's only 9:15, i'm already listening to my sleep playlist on my ipod. i am tired and i need to go to bed earlier tonight. i was up until midnight last night and that's not good. anytime that i pass my dad on our ways to work, i know i'm not on time! i actually like getting to work early. i can get in my room before my students and start my computer, buy my coke, visit. it's just getting to work early that i have a problem with. i think my bed is too comfortable! much less drama today...so nice. and tomorrow is friday! 4 day work weeks are good...especially when we only have students 3 of those days. i went to watch my boys play basketball tonight and they won! first win of the season! they have serious coaching issues, as well as several of them being quite vertically-challenged. the office was so goofy. i love that show! i haven't taken any pictures since Christmas, i need to get motivated. and it would be nice to go to the movies this weekend since slumdog millionaire and revolutionary road are playing here! gotta catch them before they disappear. i really hope neither one of us is sick this weekend...that just messes up the whole weekend and the following work week. so...here's my sleep playlist...the music that helps me relax and almost always puts me to sleep by the last song.

over the rainbow...jason castro...yes, the dreadlocked guy from american idol
i found love...kenny wayne shepherd
blackbird/yesterday...the beatles...from the love cd
realize...colbie cailat
imagine...john lennon
missing your love...jonny lang
while we cry...kenny wayne shepherd
electric lullaby...kenny wayne shepherd...ok, so i really like him...but if you know me, you knew that
so gracefully...the quiet company...my friend from this band is so talented and i love this song. he wrote it for his wife before they were married, it's so cute
mayonaise...smashing pumpkins
gravity...john mayer trio
grace...kate havnevik...from the first grey's anatomy soundtrack, look her up

i have an energy playlist too. for when i'm cleaning house or working outside or at the school. it's got way too many songs to list and some are really not songs i'm proud of! quite a bit of nelly, the black eyed peas, christina aguilera, with some limp bizkit, kanye, and mc hammer thrown in. don't tell anyone!

you should know better

that would be for the people at work that sometimes confuse working with teenagers with acting like teenagers

that would be for the people at work that tried to sneak something in on me and didn't think i'd catch it

that would be for the coke machine guy that let us run out of cokes at work

that would be for all the people that waited until today to submit grades

and all the people that thought baltimore would beat pittsburgh

and everyone that didn't vote

oh yeah, and for anyone that likes edward cullen over jacob black!

if it were up to me

if it were up to me...i wouldn't be sick, the eagles would've beat the cardinals, i'd be off work monday AND tuesday, we'd have a decent fast food place in town, and slumdog millionaire, the reader, and revolutionary road would be playing somewhere close to here. but none of those things are up to me, so i'm going to go take some more medicine and rest on the couch some more, hope the steelers win, try to feel like going to work by tuesday, try to get k-dogg to put a frozen pizza in the oven, and not go to the movies this weekend.

while i've been on the couch since yesterday morning i watched thirteen finally. i also watched august rush. both of them ended too quickly. i'm also reading a mighty heart. once again, thanks to living in the land where award-worthy movies never seem to quite make it for more than a week if at all, but we get every stupid horror movie that comes out...i never saw the movie a mighty heart, so i'm reading the book before i rent it. ok, must get medicine and pizza now and get back on the couch before my head explodes!

shut up and let me go

that title was so appropriate this week! between being back at work with my crazy students and having another "thing" in the house this week...ugh! two nights on the couch at my mom and dad's does not make me happy and cheery to face my 7th graders the next day! especially when two of them lost their minds and tried to talk back to me. work would be dreadful without my friends down the hall. we keep each other entertained and laughing so we don't end up exploding on our little darlings and getting fired. i started a new class at church wednesday night. systematic theology with a 1200 page book and our first question to figure out for next week is where did the Bible come from! yea! i get to use my brain again! anyway, other than texas winning and ou getting beat nothing else happened. i'm off to clean house and get ready for shogun and bride wars for lulu's 16th birthday!

killing time

so, i'm still hiding out in my computer room. i decided to do something i used to do on xanga (anyone still remember xanga :)) and recap 2008 by the months.

January and February
i didn't start blogging until february, so i don't remember much about january except that we spent new year's in california with bean and j-baby. i cut all my hair off. i was really sick of a lot of people at work. i started going a little organic and green. and my mom and i went to see the african childrens' choir!

March and April
went to my mom's parents' house for the first time in over 10 years and stayed in the car. still not ready. it SNOWED in march! my kodak died so i got a new canon. one of my bestest friends got married in huntsville so i roadtripped solo. i tried to back out of the garage before the door was all the way up and tore the spoiler off my car. it still isn't fixed! bean and j-baby came to houston for a film festival, so my parents and i traveled five hours to take her to lunch.

May and June
i turned 29! and banjo ran away for a couple of days. the school year ended. banjo ran away on bean's 25th birthday and we've never seen him again. i sent bean 25 birthday presents. auttie and dcam got married. bean told us she was pregnant. i worked at vbs and decided i never want to work with 5 year old boys again...or maybe it was just that group of boys.

July and August
bean came home for a week! we went to the balloon glow and a kevin fowler concert and i now have a least favorite concert ever! went to mexico for the mission trip, took 444 pictures, and ran up my cell phone bill. found out bean had lost her baby while i was on my way to mexico. survived living with two 10th grade girls for 10 days, made some good friends from my church and in mexico. watched the olympics, went back to work...was seriously addicted to army wives.

September and October
oh yeah...hurricane ike. how'd i forget that? it hit while k-dogg and i were both sick. i think i get sick every year after school starts. then football, football, and more football. crafting and shopping in between the football. and a pretty uneventful halloween spent where else...at a football game! seriously addicted to twilight!

November and December
ladies' holiday tea, middle school masquerade ball, pastor ovidio from mexico passed away, i was sick...AGAIN, some workshops, twilight the movie, thanksgiving at my house, shopping, lots of shopping, as little time at work as possible, BEAN was HOME again, seriously sick when i skipped my antidepressant medicine for a week! Christmas craziness, the office, more shopping, and THE END

i can't believe how much stuff i had forgotten about that seemed like a big deal when it happened. i also can't believe how many weekends i am sick during the school year! wow! how do i ever get all of those football games and all that shopping done!?!?!

chasing cars

not much going on, i'm hiding out in my computer room because k-dogg and his friend have taken over the living room with the x-box and some loud ugly alien game. (now they're watching stepbrothers...ugh) we went to eat at my italian place earlier. then we got pulled over by the police because our friend turned around in a parking lot and the officer thought he had driven through the parking lot to skip the red light. no ticket though! yesterday, k-dogg, my mom, and i went to caton trade days. i got some jewelry and some saris for our bedroom. and i got a lot of new ornaments for the kitchen tree we are going to have next year. k-dogg pretty much just ate the whole time we were there. i cleaned out my closet this afternoon. got rid of 40 articles of clothing and 3 pairs of shoes and you can't even tell! definitely do not need any new clothes any time soon. the only thing i didn't get done that was on my list of things to do during the break was painting the wall in my computer room. i need a paint stirrer stick. we watched season 3 of the office this week and started season 4 today. we went to see the curious case of benjamin button. you should definitely see that movie. if you don't have time or the money to go to the theater...see it as soon as it comes out on dvd. it was soooo good! k-dogg got me the 4th twilight book for Christmas and i finished it on new year's eve. it was really good and i'm absolutely on team jacob now! i'm reading the tales of beedle the bard now and then i plan to read a mighty heart next. i read speak by laurie halse anderson recently. you should read that while you're not watching the curious case of benjamin button! i also read the shack, and don't really see what all the hype is about. i thought it was pretty weak and goofy. anyway, no new year resolutions really...we are trying to save some money each month and not spend so much on stuff we don't really need. if anyone has a time machine that could stop monday from coming...please let me know!
